Education Series
Overiview
What is it?
The SIA Educational Series are high-level presentations, which will be given throughout the semester in an effort to educate our member base. Presentations will focus on three main areas we feel are pertinent to our members:
- Career paths within the financial services/investment industry
- Specific trading strategies and their real world application
- Current events surrounding the global financial markets
The Educational Series Program was developed and will act as a supplement to assist with the SIA’s main objective of placing MSU students within the financial services/investment industry. It is designed to educate and stimulate interest in the financial markets through specific topics of discussion dealing primarily with current market trends or particular interests voiced by our members. At the same time we hope to connect our current members to the executive board, and alumni through this an active discussion setting.
Past presentation topics include the following:
- Resume critique/Discourse on finance interviews
- Basics of Exchange Traded Funds
- Options
- Career paths on Wall Street
(Current members: feel free to contact us with specific issues you want to see discussed during future meetings)
Potential presentations for upcoming sessions include:
- The ongoing Credit Crunch (sub-prime lending and the domino effect)
- Private Equity
- Hedge Fund Trading
- Venture Capital
- Private Wealth
- Commodities Trading
- Trading Strategies
- Fall of Bear Stearns “Run on the Bank”
- Future Economic Outlook and Market Updates
- Financial Modeling
We plan on expanding this supplement over time because of the overwhelming positive feedback from our members and thus making the Educational Series one of the streamlined programs that SIA will offer to our members in order to achieve our primary objective to increase MSU’s visibility on Wall Street.
Who should attend?
The financial services industry hires people from diverse backgrounds in order to acquire broad and comprehensive solutions to unpredictable conflicts that arise on a daily basis. The SIA follows the same ideology and is a high caliber business organization that is open to students of all majors. The common feature that all the members share is a strong interest in the financial markets. We strongly support and encourage all of our members to participate and join us for the Educational presentations we offer.
As our members leave the presentation, our objective is for them to have ascertained a better understanding of the financial markets, and be exposed to the potential opportunities that exist within the industry.
In the end, this organization belongs to our members having been established to support and provide the resources necessary for MSU students to succeed in the real world. Without active members, the SIA would not have achieved the prestige it is recognized for today. Therefore, if there are any specific topics you wish to learn about that you strongly believe will add value to the overall member base, we highly encourage you to step up and inform us on this matter. On the other hand, if there is a specific topic of interest to you, of which you have a concrete understanding, we also highly encourage you to take the initiative to inform us and possibly present on the topic to the organization. Active involvement resides in the SIA’s formula for success, but more importantly for our individual members and their short and long-term goals.
